Two-Step Verification

Two-Step Verification

Two-Step Verification (2SA), also known as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)is a security feature that adds an extra layer of protection to your online accounts by requiring not only a password but also a code sent to or generated by your phone. This makes it much harder for hackers to access your account, even if they manage to steal your password. It secures your personal information, like emails, photos, and financial data, by ensuring that only you can complete the login process with both your password and the code. By taking this additional step, your online accounts become significantly more secure and protected from unauthorized access.

Step 1: Install Google Authenticator App

You may skip this step if you have a district-provided phone or iPad, as the app should already be present on the device.

  • Search for Google Authenticator and install the app.

Step 2: Enable 2-Step Verification on Your Google Account

  • On your computer or phone, go to Google Account.
  • In the left sidebar, click on Security.
  • Scroll down to the "Signing in to Google" section.
  • Click on 2-Step Verification.
  • You may need to log in to your account again for security purposes.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and click Get Started.

Step 3: Set Up Google Authenticator

  • Once 2-Step Verification is enabled, scroll down to the Authenticator App section.
  • Click Set up.
  • Choose your phone's operating system (Android or iPhone).
  • A QR code will appear on your screen.

Step 4: Link Google Authenticator to Your Account

Step 5: Verify and Finish Setup

  • Back on your Google Account settings, enter the 6-digit code from Google Authenticator in the provided field.

You’ve now successfully set up Google Authenticator for your Google account. Going forward, when you log in, you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code from the Google Authenticator app in addition to your password.

Optional: Backup Your Codes

  • Consider setting up backup options (e.g., phone number or backup codes) in case you lose access to the Google Authenticator app.
