Transportation Department

Welcome! School buses play an important role in America’s education system each day by transporting kids to and from school. Sonoma Valley Unified School District is pleased to announce we will be offering bus transportation for the 2024/25 school year. Home-to-school or school-to-Home bus transportation is provided within their attendance zones for all school children who live beyond walking distance. Parents who wish to enroll their children in a school outside of their attendance zone must provide their own transportation.

All school bus drivers will meet both state and school district standards to qualify as bus drivers. The safety of students and staff is a primary goal of the District. Therefore, all school buses will comply with applicable laws, regulations and inspection requirements. All students transported on a school bus will be under the authority of and responsible to the driver of the bus.  All students will conduct themselves in a cooperative manner.  Any student who does not conduct herself/himself appropriately will be subject to disciplinary action.

Driving Towards a Cleaner Future: Our Electric Bus Fleet

Three ELECTRIC yellow school buses are parked in a lot, with blue bumpers

We are excited to operate a fleet of 7 full-size, 78-passenger electric school buses, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our students and community. Funded by the California Energy Commission, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and the Diesel Emission Reduction Act, these buses represent a significant step towards reducing emissions.

These first-generation electric school buses, introduced in 2019, offer a 100-mile range and are charged over 5 hours. Perfectly suited for our home-to-school routes (all under 85 miles), these buses are charged during off-peak hours (9:00 PM to 5:00 AM), contributing to a cleaner environment and efficient energy use.
